We get a number of requests for information from people whose descendents came form the Llangrannog area, wanting information on their family home or whether they still have family living in the area. To date we have had a number of successes, sending photographs to Australia and the USA, however it is getting more difficult and we would appreciate any help from anyone concerning the items below. In the first instance please contact Bryan Davies and we can then pass on the information.
We received the following e -mail from Diane Dale in July 2008, seeking information regarding her ancestors. If any one can help, please contact us at CarregBica@aol.com My reason for emailing is this. I have recently been researching my family connections with the village as I knew there were some associations. I was born in 1949 and was in fact christened in St Caranog's church there in the summer of 1949. As a child I spent many summers in various rented houses in Llangrannog. I remember particularly Aberafon on the sea front rented from Mrs Evans I believe. My grandparents Claudia and "Ossie" George retired to Pencastell in the 40s and I knew there was a family connection. It turns out that my Grandmother Claudia Thomas's father John Davies Thomas came from Cwmceiliog near Pontcarreg. I have found that this farm seems to have changed its name to Cil-Y-Gorwel after 1953 and I would be very interested if this could be confirmed for me. I would also love a photo of the farm as I do not have one. The other houses there seem to be family associations with are Bronhawen in Pontcarreg and Gwynfor (now a nursery). I think Cwmceiliog was in the family ( Davies then Thomas) from before 1800 and so I am interested to find out when it left the family as my mother, who is still, alive thinks there were still family there in the war. Sadly my father (Evan Howard George) and all his siblings are now dead and so I cannot ask them what happened. One of Claudia's sisters Florence Cocker (nee Thomas) lived in Bywel for a time. The family at Cwmceiliog were the Davies until around the 1851 census. Then the daughter Sarah married David Thomas from Penbryn and they ran the farm until at least the 1901 census and then some of their children ran it I think. This is the time I am interested in as I am sure there were still members of the family there during the 2nd World War possibly the daughters Sarah, Ellen Gwladys or Margaret. There was also a son called Evan Thomas who became a school teacher in Llechryd and a son called John who was my Grandmother Claudia's father. His full name was John Davies Thomas and he is obviously my direct ancestor. I know what happened to him after he left LLangrannog but am interested in what happened to Cwmceiliog after 1901 until it left the family. I would be very grateful for any information you can glean and for any photos. I spent many summers in Llangrannog as my parents were both teachers and so we spent most of the long holidays there. I remember it all with great affection and have many memories of the Carnival and the show in the "garage". My parents were part of a big "gang" of friends who included Bert and Hilda Jones, Jessie and Alwyn, Betty Hafod Jones, my parents Howard and Nancy George and some more whose names escape me but my mother, who is 92 now, will remember Sorry if I have rambled on a bit but as you can tell I am very sentimental about Llangrannog and am thrilled to have traced my family back to Cwmceiliog. My parents and I have been back many many times over the years and we actually scattered my father's ashes there in 1999. Thank you once again for your help! Regards Di Dale

Robyn Jones from Australia . I contacted you late last year re photos of Cefncwrt and Evans family graves at Capel y Wig. Well , my husband and I are planning another trip to Wales May 2007 after Anzac celebrations in Turkey. And as I have no idea where to start I wondered if you could help. I want to find out if I have any surviving relations in the Llangrannog/Cardigan area. I think they were the family whose ancestors owned Cefncwrt till 1968. Evan and Mary Evans were there till 1881and had surviving Children Mary b. 1833 , William b 1834 my great grand father and Thomas b 1839. There were others but they perished before their parents.
I look forward to your
reply

I'm wondering
where I could "post" a message as my ancestor came from Llangrannog. I
would assume that there are still family members from both the Davies and
Owen families still there, so I would like to make contact if I could.
Anyway.......my Owen Davies
was baptised at St David's Church Llangrannog (Blaencelyn) on August 9,
1813, his parents were Enoch & Sara Davies from Hotty (that's what it
looks like on the copy of the church register that I have) and Enoch was a
labourer.
Enoch Davies & Sara Owen
were married on 19 June 1813 in St Davids Church and the witness' were
Evan Thomas (who was the Vicar) and James Owen.
They had quite a few
children after Owen:
Mary Davies bapt 1819
Magdalen Davies bapt 1822 -
m - David Lewis
David Davies bapt 1824
James Davies bapt 1827
Sarah Davies bapt 1829
(died 1830)
Griffith Davies bapt 1832 -
m - Elizabeth? from Llandysilio.
John Davies bapt 1834
Thomas Davies bapt 1837.
Owen arrived in Hobart
Tasmania as he married in 1837, which is where my line comes in. He was
a Master Mariner and here in Tasmania he was a captain of at least one
whaling vessel "Sussex".
So I'm trying to find out if
there are any relatives from this couple left in Llangrannog.
We received an e-mail from John Davies in Hampshire on 9th November who could be related to Helen from Tasmania. Please put Helen
Webster of Tasmania in touch with me. We appear to be related. Can anyone identify the photograph below, together with a date if possible Probably taken at Llangrannog Carnival ?
